Morning Glories

This series of eight photographs from 2000/01 is my first photographic work in color. The images are the result of my stay in a small hotel in Wales. As I was greeted by the incredibly lush colors flowing from objects to surfaces and back again each morning, I chose to photograph the room at exactly that moment of awakening, photographing every morning during my stay. These photographs are an amalgamation of thoughts about abstraction and surface, what we experience during the brief moments between sleeping and waking, while reflecting the sense of false intimacy that these most private of public spaces often leave one with.
